There are millions of children in the world today that are orphans for many reasons. They need homes, families, and guidance in order to grow up and have what we refer to as a normal life. I choose to research adoption for three reasons: my moral obligation to the world, influence from a friend, and family experiences. I feel that we as a world have a moral obligation to adopt because there are so many that need homes. All children deserve to grow up and have opportunities to succeed in whatever they choose to do.

Growing up, I had a friend who was adopted along with her three sisters from Korea. Each of the sisters was from different families and was brought to their new home, Peachtree City, GA, to live with their new parents. Ashleigh was one of the nicest people I have ever come across and lived each day as if it were her last. One day, we got to talking about her life story and I came to realize what I wanted to do in my life. She showed me how precious a life really is and how important it is that I adopt children and give these children a chance that they might otherwise not have had.

My father worked in China and was the one who sparked my interest in adoption. He would come home and tell me about children he saw in the orphanages and how at age fourteen they were let out and expected to grow-up and adapt to the world. China, being where my father lived and worked for much of my lifetime, was my fathers home which made it another home for me. I was never able to visit because of family reasons, but looking at pictures and research I feel like that is my second home.

I’ve never been particularly good at any subject in school, but I’ve always known I wanted to have children and spend the rest of my life raising them. I’m choosing to adopt because of how important it is to our world. Our world is facing a serious problem of overpopulation and I feel that this is one way I can help.

I know that I can not change the world but I can always try. My friend influenced mine and I hope that in some way I can teach others why this is so important to consider when deciding how and when to have children.
